Scientists link over 100 genes to breast cancer

Scientists have discovered a ‘‘treasure trove’’ of 110 genes which raise the risk of breast cancer, in a major breakthrough that paves the way for new and more personalised treatments.

The study, the most comprehensive investigation ever conducted into the genetics of breast cancer, used pioneering techniques to create maps of a woman’s DNA.

The team at the Institute of Cancer Research in London found 110 genes that increase a woman’s risk. The researchers say it will provide a huge range of new targets for drug development.
