Maroondah BreastScreen celebrates 20 years of screening and assessment in the north-east region of Victoria.

BreastScreen Victoria CEO Vicki Pridmore commended the service for its achievements during the past two decades.

“Since the Ringwood East based service opened in 1994, 500,000 women have been screened. The clinic has a proud history of providing breast screening services for the early detection of breast cancer and I commend all members of staff for their efforts,” Ms Pridmore said.

Maroondah BreastScreen Program Manager Michelle Clemson said staff are proud of what the service had achieved during the past 20 years.

We have six staff members who have been working at the service since day one, and it’s fantastic to celebrate this outstanding milestone with them.

With 50 per cent of women diagnosed with breast cancer between the age of 50-74, Ms Clemson said it was crucial for services to reach out to this age group to promote the importance of regular breast screens.

“Breast screens are primarily recommended once every two years for women in this age group, so we need to keep reminding people of the local services available to them,” Ms Clemson said.

“Further to our screening, assessment and follow up on-site in Ringwood East, we also host the BreastScreen Mobile Screening Service every two years at Alexandra, Beechworth, Corryong, Mansfield, Mt Beauty, Myrtleford, Tallangatta, Wangaratta and Yarrawonga,” Ms Clemson said.
