The Bupa Cashmere View Retirement Village Gardening Club has 26 green-fingered people meeting monthly to discuss all aspects of gardening.

The club began five years ago and has kept its members busy with projects throughout the village. These have included trips to Trotts Garden in Ashburton, guest speakers, and the upkeep of a village beehive with the honey collected, shared, and enjoyed by all of the village residents.

Trevor Houston, Bupa Cashmere View resident says he’s made many friends through the gardening club.

“The vegetable garden is already providing produce and we’ve enjoyed beginning the new garden areas and planting fruit trees. We all have a great time,” Mr Houston said.

Rochelle Moore, Bupa Cashmere View Retirement Village Manager says discussion of common interests between residents is important in their health and wellbeing.

“Clubs have a way of bringing people together, forming new friendships, swapping stories, exchanging ideas, and planning new projects which gives them a sense of achievement,” Ms Moore says.
